Preventive Services

Would you like to find a simple, affordable way to avoid dental problems?

A truly beautiful smile doesn't just look good – it is also healthy and free of disease.

At Clark Dental Studio, we understand the impact that unhealthy teeth can have on your quality of life. That's why our team spends a lot of time educating our patients about the importance of preventive services like dental cleanings and exams. Even if you haven't always been conscientious about oral hygiene or brushing and flossing, it's never too late to start!

Eating healthy foods can also do a lot to keep cavities from developing.

A diet high in sugar and empty carbs is unhealthy for your teeth. Cavity-causing bacteria feed on the sugars produced by these foods, creating acid that eats away at your teeth and causes decay. But even though personal oral hygiene and diet are important, they aren't really effective unless combined with routine professional dental cleanings and exams.

As important as healthy teeth are, preventive services aren’t just good for your oral health. A lack of proper oral hygiene combined with chronic gum disease can contribute to serious issues like heart disease, diabetes, respiratory disease, and even pregnancy complications.

Routine Dental Exams

Routine dental exams give us a chance to keep up with the current condition of your oral health. These exams focus on your entire mouth to identify potential problems like early signs of gum disease, problems with your dental bite, and even oral cancer symptoms.

If you are a new patient, one of our doctors will chat with you to learn about your expectations for a healthier smile. Next, we’ll perform a visual exam to look for any signs of obvious problems. We'll also perform a head and neck exam for irregularities, unusual growths, or signs of any tumors. Aside from oral cancer, there are MANY other types of cancers and syndromes that have oral manifestations, and we're your first line of defense.

Digital x-rays allow us to view any problems that may be developing deep inside your teeth. During your follow-up visit, we’ll talk to you about our findings and work with you to develop a plan for treatment that fits your specific needs.

Professional Dental Cleanings

You can’t just rely on daily brushing and flossing at home if you want a really healthy smile. Even with the most conscientious care, it's still essential to schedule routine professional dental cleanings with a skilled dental hygienist to eliminate cavity-causing plaque and tartar on your teeth.

During these cleanings, we’ll also check for signs of gum disease and make appropriate plans for treatment. Cleanings twice a year are sufficient for many patients, but for those with a history of periodontal (gum) disease, we usually recommend more frequent cleanings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Periodontal disease (gum disease) has become a widespread problem in the last several decades. You need to worry about gum disease because it is the number one cause of tooth loss for adults.

Gum disease starts when plaque and tartar are allowed to remain on your teeth, creating a perfect environment for bacteria to develop. This opens up small pockets between your teeth and gums, which cause your teeth to feel loose. If the problem is not corrected with professional periodontal treatment, you put yourself at serious risk for losing the tooth.

It’s also important to know that gum disease impacts your overall health. There is evidence that bacteria present with gum disease can set off an inflammatory process that can lead to heart attack or stroke. Research has also shown that chronic infections in your mouth may be linked to diabetes, pneumonia, and other health problems.

Would you like to avoid ever having to worry about gum disease and all the problems it creates? The solution is very easy – prevention. Follow sound at-home oral hygiene practices and stay current with routine appointments for professional dental cleanings at Clark Dental Studio.

If you have gum disease, we offer treatments that will stop its progress and keep it under control. Otherwise, please call our office today to schedule your next routine exam and cleaning.
